At Dromoland Castle
But the Burren really has to be experienced to be believed. One of our favourite ways to explore this UNESCO World Heritage
Site is to taste your way along the Burren Food Trails, visiting world-class artisan suppliers and restaurants at every stop.
Alpine, Arctic and Mediterranean plants grow side-by-side in The Burren, a lunar-like limestone world that formed 320 million years ago. The magical, mystical area bears the marks of ancient settlers, in the form of dolmens and burial chambers, which still stand today. Come to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which covers 560 sq kilometres, and follow the wonderful Burren Food Trail. Featuring 22 local establishments and producers, the area’s unique landscape produces some of Ireland’s finest beef, lamb and salmon. Our top tip? Schedule a visit to The Burren Smokehouse to learn how smoked salmon, one of our most celebrated national ingredients, is prepared. (Naturally, you’ll find it on the menu at Dromoland Castle!)
