The Conservatory

At Dromoland Castle

No longer in existence the conservatory was situated in the South Western corner of the first garden. We can still see the low front wall on which the glass must have rested. The back wall is still intact and the buildings to the other side of this wall housed the gardener's office, potting shed and another boiler room. They are still in existence today, although not used for those purposes.

Des McNulty, a local man who worked in the garden until about 1995 recalled the lady of the house coming to the conservatory in his earlier years for afternoon t ea. He gave an account of life in those times in which, once the lady, and any visitors she may be entertaining, arrived in the garden the working gardeners had to retreat until the aristocrats had finished their enjoyment of the place.
