International Rosé Day

With international rosé day upon us, and with the sunny weather due to continue its time to take a leaf from the French way of living. A little blush in the afternoon to relax in the sun with friends or food. So I would like to take the opportunity to highlight four of our rosés from our Castle Wine List.

The first wine is

Domaine de la Colombette
Tasting Notes
Made from Grenache, Cinsault and Cabernet grapes, this wine shows delicate red berry fruit flavours and a very fresh and crisp plate. Initial sweet fruit flavours especially strawberries turn to a dry and fresh finish. We would pair this wine with a Brown Soda Bread Souffle with a Compote of Red Berries and Fresh Vanilla Bean Creme Anglais.

The second wine is

Chateau Miraval Rosé, Provence, France
Tasting Notes
First impression is a light and lovely, distinctly, “Provencal” red berry, cherry-like, aroma with a hint of the garrigue, perhaps nuances of lavender and thyme.  Most impressive is the balance between the fruit and minerality and there is complexity too along with good length and finish. Freshness abounds and the wine makes a great case for “Terroir”, the expression of the soil, the climate and the land – the essence of the wine. We would pair this with a bigger flavoured dish like a Wild Sea Bass Saffron Risotto, Fennel & French Beans with Black Olives, Bouillabaisse Sauce

The third wine is

Louis Picamelot, Rosé, Traditional Method, Burgundy
TASTING NOTES
An intense pink colour with a foaming necklace of tiny bubbles. The palate is generous – round and soft yet brisk and firm with wonderfully balanced acidity and richness. The wine finishes with a lingering fruitiness, dominated by fresh strawberries aromas. We would pair this wine with a Smoked Platter with Homemade Brown Bread.

The fourth wine is

Louis Roederer Brut Rosé 2000
Pink with an orange rim and a vigorous mousse. Deep cherry, berry skin, spiced nuts and flowers on the nose, brightened by blood orange and smoky minerals. Taut, finely etched red berry and citrus flavors gain flesh with air, taking a turn to bitter cherry, toffee apple and yellow plum. Sappy, lightly chewy and concentrated, with a long, spicy finish. We would pair this wine with Gallery Pave of Wild Salmon with a Sauce Vierge.
